In the art gallery there is always an impressive traveling art display. Norman Rockwell's work was here, as was the famous American bronze sculptor Frederic Remington, Ansel Adams, andTiffany (of iconic stained glass-fame). Many international artists have been featured here as too, such as works of Monet and Matisse. Truly one of the great treasures of this community, the Paine is one of the premiere locations in the state for such fine art showings.
Aside from going to see fine art, feast your eyes on the gardens outside. In three seasons the grounds are stunning, perfectly manicured and ever-changing. Guided tours are scheduled at frequent intervals throughout each day and are included with admission. Groups may call ahead and request a docent tour specific to the group. Reservations for a private docent are required several days in advance. Admission is so inexpensive at only $9 per adult that can't pass it up. The Entertainment Book for the area has Buy One Get One coupons.
Not interested so much in art or lavish landscaping? Then those who love architecture will also find plenty to enjoy here. This building is Wisconsin's small version of the Biltmore Castle. With exquisite details, hand carved, imported woods, to the best examples of fine craftsmanship, this castle will knock your socks off.
No photography or video taping is allowed inside.
The Paine is located at 1410 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh, WI. 920-235-6903. Check their website for hours and special events. This is a place certainly worth your time. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking lot or designated street parking nearby.
If you are making a trip to experience the EAA Airventure show in Oshkosh this July/August, this is the perfect location to round out your activities for the week.
