Pinecrest Historical Village in Manitowoc

This expansive historical village just west of Manitowoc, WI continues to grow each year. Restoration of additional buildings is underway for a new museum office and gift shop and will be an educational place for visitors to check in. It is located just off of Highway 43, about 2 miles from the highway. Manitowoc is 40 miles south of Green Bay, nearly the halfway point between Green Bay and Milwaukee.  This settlement truly is a preserved village covering many acres.

Taking the self-guided, recorded audio tour is a great way to see each of these buildings. Guests are ushered back in time as the immigrant families (portrayed) describe their journey of settling here and talking about the challenges they faced at the time. Illness, harsh weather, family units, hard work, difficult travel - you will get a better understanding of how determined these people were to survive in a new country.
In addition to the dozens of volunteers that run this historical village, numerous craftsmen and historically trained artisans volunteer their talents, too, making this a significant, wonderful place to visit.  Outstanding examples of furniture, architecture, fabrics, tools, farming techniques, buildings, barns, machines, homes, businesses, and antiques fill these buildings transporting guests back to another era.  Walking is easy here and self-paced allows visitors to see as much as they feel like.  Wear comfortable shoes and consider buying or bringing water along your exploration, as the place really is very large at nearly 60 acres.

Check their website for events. They offers some really great opportunities to experience festivals, tooling workshops, and historical events here throughout most of the year.  Visit Pinecrest Historical Village

On most days, visitors will that they have the place to themselves to explore because it is so large. Take your time and explore!  Many of the buildings are beautiful and offer wonderful photo-opps.   Perhaps the round barn or antique bridge would be good places to rent for an incredibly memorable wedding!
