Seasonal Events in Green Bay

Seasonal events -----
The summer season explodes with things to do for special events in the Green Bay area.  I attend nearly every single one of them since they are so well done. The community enjoys each of them so much.  Here are just some of the highlights.
  • Downtown Farmer's Market - Saturday morning 6am to noon, June through October.
  • Broadway Farmer's Market - Wednesday evening from 3pm to 8pm, June through October, this is the 2nd largest Farmer's Market in Wisconsin, a truly wonderful event!
  • (There are farmer's markets occurring somewhere in the city nearly every day of the week in summer)
  • The Bellin Run - 20, 000 runners take to the streets for a 5k run. This race is in the top 10 in the United States for largest 5k runs. Quite a sight!
  • The Cellcom Marathon - 8,000 runners participate. This is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. May.
  • ArtStreet - an annual artfair where 200 vendors and artists from around the US sell their wares. Local performances by ethnic dance troups, glass blowing, wool carting, weaving, ironwork, and many other skilled artists demonstrate in the streets of downtown. August.
  • Fire Over the Fox - Fourth of July celebration downtown.
  • Bassmaster Elite fishing tournament. This national tournament includes a $500,000 purse to the winner- June.
  • Dine on the Deck - multi-vendor outdoor dining on The City Deck downtown from 11:30am to 1:30pm, Wednesdays. June through September.
  • Fridays on the Fox - live music on The City Deck downtown on Friday evenings from 5:30pm to 10pm. Free. June through July.
  • Leicht at Night - Free concerts at Leicht Park. August through September. Thursday nights from 5:30pm to 10pm.
  • Winterfest - the last week in January. An indoor/outdoor event featuring ice sculpture contests, chili cookoffs, and live music.
  • Taste on Broadway - 8,000 people attend this fun event in August. 30+ restaurants gather, live entertainment, local breweries and wineries are represented.
  • Garden of Lights - the botanical gardens in winter are transformed into a light festival featuring shapes transformed into a winter wonderland by light.  A horsedrawn wagon is available to ride if you don't feel like walking. Late November and December.
  • The Tall Ship Festival / Great Lakes Challenge - this incredible event comes to town in summers with every third year with Green Bay being the only Wisconsin port in the Great Lakes Challenge. August.
  • The Garden of Lights is well worth a frosty stroll. Between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day our botanical garden is transformed into a kaleidoscope of color in holiday themes. Structures are sculpted by christmas lights and placed along a path that winds through about 1/4 of the entire space of the botanical gardens acreage. From swans, to frogs on lilypads, to a skyline with fairy-dust, this is truly a lovely wonderland worth seeing.
In 2013 there will be over 120 events scheduled in downtown Green Bay during the summer months alone. Most of them are food, music, and art related and are free. See the summertime guide HERE for a schedule of planned events.
